OOC – Health Issues and Reading a lot

September 25th

LOL, it always seems to happen but that’s the breaks at my age.

Dental work always sucks even if you put it off if you can.  I’ve been dealing with some bad molars (a failed crown and root canal) and a filling that died with it on a second tooth.  Lots of infections and such but I kept putting it off and finally had to do the deed. Ouchy!!   I was saving up some money to get it done and had to deal with it until I could get it done without bankrupting myself.  Got it done a week ago and still having some issues with the refit on a denture, plus, waiting on a new partial.  Funtimes but worth it in the long term.

I have played a little bit of WoW and have tried to get a few issues resolved with some characters that got “damaged” during the last patch.  Contacted CS and that was a sheer waste of time – just need to backup and regroup and not stress about it.

While I have been dealing with the medical things, decided to do some binge reading and have read a lot of books regarding World of Warcraft, naturally.  Some of them were re-reads because it has been a while, and some were new.   I sure have been using the heck out of my Kindle and enjoying every minute of it. Going back and reading some of the books helps renew my immersion in my characters and makes me reflect on some of my stories as well, which, does make writing a lot easier for me to do – works for me at least.  Even got crazy and got the Chronicles and haven’t even started reading them yet.  I’m enjoying my reading because it’s been a good two years since I was able to really “read” a book with any kind of comfort level with my sight.  Yep, sight is still not as good as it was but at least I can still fumble my way through a book and not have to worry about it that much.

I have always enjoyed playing World of Warcraft as well as reading the books that go along with the game.  I can remember when most of the information we would get about the game was doing the reading on the forums, however, that really hasn’t been the case in the last few expansions.

Speaking of the forums – if you’ve been reading some of the stuff, please take it with a grain of salt because these are not the people that are happy with the game in some way or other.  If I was a person looking at the game and didn’t have any knowledge of the game and how it’s played, I wouldn’t want to play it.  Sure, there are problems in the game and some of it could have been avoided if Blizzard had listened to the Beta forum people, however, they didn’t listen, and we got socked with a bunch of bugs that were not repaired.  Oh well, I’m sure that it will get resolved and I will continue to do the thing of playing and working my way through – lagging as I usually do.

I know that the problems always flare up at the beginning of the newest expansion and people get so nasty about it that it always makes me wonder why they are still playing the game if they hate everything about it.  I play at a casual rate and enjoy it even when it’s broken because I know that it will get fixed eventually and I can always go back to it.   People yelling to fire this person and that person seems a bit mean and unrealistic – that’s just my opinion.

I know that I will probably start getting back into the game now that a lot of medical problems have been kind of resolved for the time being and will start feeling better.   I know that I will never feel like I did a few years ago and have the energy or stamina to play for the hours that I used to play.  Hey, it’s reality and sometimes RL takes longer to adult in than it used too.

Still learning my way around on the new computer – ended up having to uninstall and reinstall World of Warcraft and my addons due to having moved the files to the wrong drive. I could not figure out why some of the changes that were being made were not showing up in my files or the game.  What’s an SSD and a regular drive and what does it do?   LOL, there were some of my issues and I plead ignorance, but I think I have it figured out now.

See you all in Azeroth

OOC – Things Happen

July 12th, 2018

Well, all my plans for the month of June had to take a hiatus due RL stuff going on and I am going to try to get back into this thing called writing.  I know that I haven’t even spent the time to try to catch up with all the authors that I have been reading for years.   I’m going to take my time so that I don’t get all that stressed out with everything too.  Stress is my bane of existence because if I get too stressed about stuff, I get sick and that is exactly what happened to the month of June.

I know that when I had planned to get stuff done, I was being a bit ambitious and that was my undoing.  Some things you just don’t learn as you get older too – overloading does not make the task enjoyable. I know that I really know how to plan things out and with as much time on my hands since I retired years ago, sometimes I just think that I will have all the time in the world to get things done.  I used to work in an industry where deadlines were your bread and butter and you were judged on your achievements in that area – add in quality of work and that was a bonus.

I know that with the way our weather has been in Colorado, I haven’t had much time or inclination to be spending a lot of time outside in the sunshine.  I know we have broken several records so many times this season that it is almost shocking.  Heat and I don’t get along all that well.  When you get to be my age, there are only so many clothes you can take off before you start laughing uncontrollably.  Gravity is not my friend at this age.    With all my computer equipment being in my loft, it does get warm up there even with AC – heat rises and with lofted ceilings, it likes to heat up and hold it there for a long time.  My skylights are heavily tinted to keep the brightness out of the loft as much as possible because it has gotten to where the super bright lights tend to blind me at times.

I don’t know why I thought I could get a lot of stuff done in Legion before Battle for Azeroth is dropped on August 14th and I tried, however, being an altoholic does make it a bit more fun.  Sure, I don’t have the new races released yet with the rep grinds and I don’t have flying.  I am just calling a screeching halt to the constant grind I’ve been doing while I’ve been online.  I’ll get it done when I get it done and I don’t have to have all the shinnies that were in Legion either because I don’t really care at this point.  I will do the best that I can and enjoy the time in the game just as I always have.  I know that I think Blizzard can take their Pathfinder requirements and put them where the sun don’t shine because that has taken a lot of fun out of the game for me.  Draenor drove me to distraction and I got it all done, however, it was after Legion dropped that I really started overloading myself with characters.

When Legion did their expansion drop preliminary events, I did run up quite a few characters with it and I’ve been stuck with them in Draenor for the last couple of years because I was busy in Legion trying to get caught up with things.  It’s not so easy to do when you have two computers crap out on you and you must save your money up, so you can get a new rig (which I do have and totally love).  I have several characters in Legion currently and I was mistaken for a long time when I thought that you “shared” some of the achievements and reputations – really put a roadblock out there for me.  I am willingly admitting that I have always used “guides” to find my way through the expansions and with Legion not having that information readily available for deeper research, it has been challenging.  I’ll do what I can when I feel like playing at this point and continue my happy way.

I also have been able to get some new glasses and that has made a huge difference for me because I was struggling with a pair of glasses that really didn’t do it for me sometimes.  I know that I have been reading a lot too – books that I have had a long time and couldn’t seem to get my brain to stay on them for as long as I would like.  When I ready, I am one of those people that likes to lay down and get comfy – which leads to unanticipated naps.  I’m also known for binge-watching television shows that I really liked a lot.  Hey, it’s not a big deal when you can make up your own schedule as you go along.

This was a lot longer than I wanted it to be, however, it is a start in the right direction of writing a little bit.   I will try to get caught up on the reading of my friends’ posts and try to get some character writing done as well – just like last month.  I hope to see you all in Azeroth soon.

Not Feeling Up to Snuff..

June 10th

Had one of those weekends where you just don’t feel like doing a whole lot.  Played a little monk up to level 20 so that he didn’t wear out his level 10 boots running all over – yep, that gear is just not there right now and I have to get someone to make some more stuff for him.

I think I have been staying up too late for too many nights and it’s caught up with me a bit.  Starting feeling kind of ill on Thursday night and haven’t felt good since then.  Oh well, stuff happens and that’s when I just kind of take a break and rest up a bit.   When you get to be my age, your body has its own way of saying “Yo, stupid, time to stop this stuff or I’ll fight back.” Naturally, I know that the majority of people don’t like to read about this personal stuff, however, I don’t feel like logging in to tell the few that might care what is going on.

Having suffered with chronic vertigo for roughly three years plus, I’ve learned that when I don’t feel well enough to play a video game, it’s time to take a break and hope that it gets better soon and/or make another doctor’s appointment so they can shake their heads, give me more drugs to try.  This medical condition has a tendency to make you have a certain amount of nausea as well as a growing depression threshold.   However, you poor people, I have a laptop that I can always write when I’m in the reclining position.

Oh, not to mention, Summer has definitely arrived where I live with temperatures soaring to new record breaking numbers.  I do like to go outside once in a while and check out that bright light in the sky to make sure it’s not just a myth.   Since I do happen to have my gaming, artwork and general all round hang out space in a loft with big skylights – it does tend to get a tad bit warm up here.

So, hopefully, I’ll be logging in for a little while sometime today to see if I can enjoy my hobby and my online friends without feeling like I’m going to fall out of my chair or barf into my keyboard – you do know that barf is considered User Abuse by most companies and isn’t covered by the warranties?

End game?  Oh, I’ll get there before too much longer…I’m just taking a longer time to get there.
